Welcome To Pageant Consulting By Corby!

Corby Carlin Winters, M.A.

It is my passion to help young women reach their fullest potential and help them attain their goals.

There is no one in the world exactly like you! No one has the same qualities, style and grace that you alone possess.  Remember, you are just too fabulous.

My method is to work with the whole person: mind, body and spirit.  I focus on each area because every area of your life is connected.  When we strengthen one area, we strengthen all areas.  My goal is to help you identify your strengths and change your perceived weaknesses into positives.

It’s been said that “true beauty is not in the face, but a light in the heart.”  When we remember that inner beauty is the true key, everything else will begin to fall into place.

I will help equip and empower you with the tools necessary to be your best in your pageant.  It is my goal that when you will walk on stage you will be secure, confident, poised and the best that you can be.

And I am in the business of training Winners for Life!

Creating Winners for Life!

The pageant experience is a great opportunity to grow in every area of your life.

From learning how to express your talents and gifts to honing your interview skills to learning how to perform under stress, all these are positive life applications.

Winners exude an air about them, and people gravitate to winners. As your coach, I am in the business of creating winners for life!  You may not walk away with the crown, but you will be more confident, secure and comfortable in taking on almost any challenge.

Everything I teach you can be carried into every area of your life.  You will be able to handle any challenge that life throws at you because you, my dear friend, are a winner!

This Is An Endurance Race

As my dear old Dad use to say “The week of Miss Oklahoma is an endurance race and the last girl standing wins.”

His observation was pretty close to the truth.  It is a long week and you have to on top of your game – the entire time. It is a stressful time, and it’s important you find ways to rest and cope with stress.

We have to learn ways to de-stress. Listen to music, take hot showers and again, rest.  One key way to lessen stress is to be organized. Have everything you need, double-check before you arrive. The last thing you want to worry about is something you forgot to bring, or can’t find.

And you need to focus – focus on you and only you.  You must have blinders on, not letting anything distract you from your goal.  It’s a mental game and it’s my job to help you focus on your gifts and strengths during this time.  There will be many beautiful and talented women competing, but remember there is only one “you.”

Don’t focus on others, but focus on yourself. Remember this is an endurance race, not a sprint.

Your Voice Speaks Volumes

How you sound speaks volumes about you.

Proper voice inflection is a key to winning pageants. You have to sound “good.”

As your pageant coach, I will help make sure your voice reflects the right tone and sound you want to convey to the audience and judges. Soft voices are hard to hear, too loud and you come across brash.

Our goal is to find that balance and project that of a woman of strength – the voice of a winner.

You Never Have A Second Chance For A First Impression

It may be a cliché, but it’s true.

You start making an impression when you first arrive and walk through the door.  That first impression is lasting and unforgettable. You never have a second chance for a first impression.

You are always “on,” so to speak.  As humans, we are often judged right away; that’s just the way life is.  But it’s my job to help you focus on presenting a great first impression.  And it’s not just about looks, but also what you wear, how you appear and your attitude.

Everything, from your outfits to your talent to your smile, impact that first impression.  Our goal is to make sure that first impression is the one you want to be remembered for.

Leave Them Wanting More

When a great contestant walks into the room, it is a breath of fresh air to the judges.

You want your judges to love you and the best way to accomplish that is by being you!  You must be sincere, genuine, engaging and articulate.  When a contestant speaks with confidence and projects poise and style, the judges are always wowed.

Winning contestants have the whole package.  They are unforgettable simply because they are.  Your goal is to always leave the judges wanting more. It is my job as your pageant coach to help you be that contestant.   I will help identify your strengths and areas where we need to focus more attention.

We will have several mock interviews lined up.  My husband, John Winters, a 24-year veteran of the newspaper industry and three-time Pulitzer Prize nominated investigative reporter, will help with practice interviews.

Eat Great – Feel Great

When you eat great, you automatically feel great.

I am a strong proponent of healthy eating and proper physical care.  Living a healthy lifestyle is part of a complete pageant package.

Eating disorders are ramped in our country and I am not in the business of encouraging extremes dieting or workout regimes.  It is about finding balance.  There are great fitness trainers available and as your pageant coach, I will help you find the right one for you.

A balanced and healthy diet full of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean protein and yogurt is great.   Some contestants choose a vegetarian  or no-carbohydrate diet,  but I have found that limiting yourself too much to one program can be difficult over the long-term.  Think healthy, healthy, healthy!  Get plenty of exercise, sleep, drink lots of water, and  take your vitamins.

You are preparing for a race and you need all they strength you can get.

Unforgettable Walk

Perfecting the perfect pageant walk is easy for some and can be very tricky for others.

Those who have the most trouble simply can’t relax – they are too stiff or walk too slow or fast.  Compounding that is what to do with your hands while you walk.

Remember, hands are just hands. They need to be relaxed and your arms should swing casually by your side.  The worse thing you can do is hold your hands back behind you like a chicken.  It just doesn’t work.

A winning walk shows judges you are in control and comfortable on stage.  And yes, that’s easier said than done – especially when you’re in a swimsuit in front of hundreds of people.

If you struggle in this area, you must practice, practice, practice.  You simply cannot hide a bad pageant walk.  A few helpful tips are looking at old pageant tapes and practicing in front of the mirror.

One of the key things I work on with clients is the walk.  And my goal is to help you walk like a pro.

Train Like An Athlete

Think of preparing for a pageant the same way an athlete trains for the Olympics.

Olympians are completely dedicated and focused on winning.  They have a plan on what they need to do, and how they need to do it, to get the gold medal.  They use coaches and other experts to help them achieve their goal.

You have your own gold medal – the pageant crown.  You must plan out every aspect of your training – your talent, your interview, your wardrobe, your look, your style. All that as well as your mental and physical fitness are key to your success.

My goal is to help train you for your contest.  We can leave no stone unturned.  We train for the gold medal – or the crown.
